Our daily PE lessons. Today's lesson involved jumping over the  snake as well as sliding underneath it and all the time without letting it "bite." The kids also had a tug of war. Two teams evenly split, it was a good battle. We did it more than once and then it was all 13 kids against me. I gave them too many tips on effective pulling.... I lost ... every time.

With red faces and red hands we all went back to school for a well earned drink and snack !

Ahhhhhh..... the magic of music, movement and cute cuddly toys!

This week in PE, the kids were on the ropes! In these videos they had to stay on the blue mat and avoid the swinging ropes. That wasn't as easy as they thought it was going to be. Many thought that once they had passed a rope they could forget about it and concentrate on the next one...except the rope swung back and if they weren't watching....bang! They would then have to step off the mat and go back and try again. Likewise if they stepped off the mat themselves to avoid a rope, they would have to return to the start.  The more they practised the better they got as their awareness and understanding of the task quickly developed. The kids also had to crawl under the ropes. They could choose different ways of crawling. Rolling like a sausage was also a task.... which meant sometimes not quite knowing where the rope was...or where the others were around them.  To put it into a more meaningful  context for them, the ropes were sometimes snakes hanging from trees or giant elephant trunks looking for mangos! That definitely made it more exciting.

Apologies for the sideways shooting angle, I tried to fit as many of the children on the screen as I could. In future, I'll remember that the camera doesn't work that way.

"There was an elephant in my backyard, my backyard, my backyard.

There was an elephant in my backyard, when I got home last night.

I didn't see her standing there when I got home last night,

But she trumpeted and flapped her ears and she gave me such a fright.

I didn't know just what to do, should I stay or should I run?

I can tell you this though an elephant in you backyard's not much fun."

(Part of one of our many songs about elephants. I do think they're "fun,"

I always enjoy seeing them in and around the camp... everyone here has at least one elephant story to tell!)
